Charles LeRoy Wimmer

Charles LeRoy Wimmer, 83, New Paris, died at 3:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care in Milford, where he had been a resident for 18 months. 

He was born to Gilbert P. and Beverly Susanna (Ancil) Wimmer April 5, 1933 in Converse on his grandfather’s farm.

On Feb. 27, 1954, he married Violet Jane Reader in Rhinelander, Wisc.  She preceded him in death in 2009.

Charles attended school in Morristown. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. While living in Gleason, Wisc. and Bremen, Charles farmed. After moving to New Paris, he was a woodworker.  Charles enjoyed gardening, collecting Greentown glass and had a passion for woodworking.

Charles is survived by his children: Ada (Lyle) Miller, Nappanee; Tom (Sandy) Wimmer, Plymouth; Mark (Najaw) Wimmer, Syracuse; Teresa Wimmer, Benton; Greta (Tim) Burtsfield, Millersburg; Debbie (Dan) Ostrander, Goshen; Danny Wimmer, Rhinelander, Wisc.; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet; parents, Gilbert and Beverly Wimmer; step parents, Herb and Ethel Pfeiffer; and his sister, Connie Valarde.

Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27 at Bethel Mennonite Church and for one hour prior to funeral service which will begin at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28 at the church. Minister Lyle R. Miller, will officiate.  Burial will be in Bethel Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Arrangements are with Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.

Memorial contributions may be given to Kosciusko County Hospice.

The family would like to thank the Lakeland Staff and nurses and the Kosciusko County Hospice Staff for taking such good care of their Dad.
