Roland E. Heckaman, 84, Nappanee, died at noon, Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa.
Roland has lived the past 3 ½ years at Miller’s Senior Living in Wakarusa. He was born June 22, 1932 in Elkhart to Oscar and Aleda (Foeckler) Heckaman. He has lived his entire life in this area. Roland was a graduate of Nappanee High School.
On June 29, 1951, he married Patricia Schmucker in Nappanee. She preceded him in death March 15, 2013.
Mr. Heckaman had worked at Heckaman Homes and Nappanee Wood Products and at Your Flower Shop in Nappanee. He was a member of Nappanee Church of the Brethren and had attended Good Shephard Church in Bradenton, Fla. during the winter months. He had been a member of the Nappanee Lions Club for 25 years. He was a craftsman and enjoyed working with oak. He also enjoyed traveling and golf.
Mr. Heckaman is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Wayne) Kline, Goshen; daughter-in-law, Brenda Heckaman, Nappanee; grandchildren: Stephanie (Jim) Blair, Danya (Moe) Pippen, Tony Adams, Derick Heckaman; great grandchildren: Kaylee, Sloan, Cody, Amanda, Erick, Breanna, Emmy Jo; great great grandchildren: Jana, Caleb, Daubion; brother, Stan Heckaman; and sister, Shirley Cunningham, both of Nappanee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Dennis Heckaman, and brothers, Junior, Carl, and Lamar.
Family and friends may call from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, followed by funeral services at 4 p.m. Rev. Janet McFall-Brown will officiate and burial will be in South Union Cemetery.
