Robert L. Shaw Jr, 90, of Nappanee, died at 5:25 am, Friday, Nov. 21, 2014 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa.
He was born May 17, 1924, in Deland, Fla. to Robert L., Sr. and Irene (Beach) Shaw.
On Oct. 16, 1945, he married Frances Kilmer in Blakly, Ga. She survives.
Shaw was a 1942 graduate of Deland High School and received a degree in agriculture engineering from LaSalle University in Chicago, Ill. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. He served in the Pacific Fleet in Guam and Pearl Harbor and was stationed on the USS Proteus in Tokyo Bay anchored next to USS Missouri when the surrender was signed. He worked in the RV Industry and also Dodge in South Bend for eight years.
Additional survivors include four sons, Rob (Pam) Shaw, Jerry (Sheila) Shaw and Jim (Benita) Shaw all of Nappanee, Dan (Marsha) Shaw, Fort Wayne; one daughter, Wanda Stephans, Fort Wayne; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; four brothers, Don (Terry) Shaw, Deland, Fla., Edward “Bucky” (Judy) Shaw, Orange City, Fla., Oscar “Espie” (Marilyn) Shaw, Fla., and Lester (Anna) Shaw, Texas; two sisters, Diana (Kenny) Nees, Poland and Kate Kay, Syracuse.
He was preceded in death by brothers, John and Carlton Shaw; and sisters, Mary Morin, Mildred Peterson, Vernera Hoffer, and Nancy Hood.
Family and friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and for one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, Nov. 24, at the funeral home. Officiating will be his grandson, Rev. Bart Shaw, associate pastor at First Brethren Church in Nappanee. Burial will be in Hepton Union Cemetery, with military graveside services by the Nappanee American Legion.
