Carl P. Orsund, 91, of Nappanee, passed away at his home Monday night, Nov. 10, 2014.
He was born on May 28, 1923, to Peder and Helga (Nybak) Orsund in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. When he was 19 years old Carl moved to Indiana, and had spent his married life in the area. He married Wilma Balsley on July 28, 1949, in Etna Green. He was a World War II Army veteran and worked as a military policeman. He served in the European Theater, and was very proud of his service to the country.
Carl worked for Uniroyal for over 38 years and had also farmed. He was a member of the Nappanee United Methodist Church. When he lived in Wisconsin, he and his wife Wilma loved to snowmobile and he served as director of the snowmobile club there.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters: Susan Orsund, Nappanee; Sandra (Lawrence) Bressler of Nappanee; a son: Denis (Leslie) Orsund, Plymouth; grandchildren: James (Kelly) Orsund, Tanya Bressler, Sandra (Chantel) Orsund and Lucas (Tricia) Orsund; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son: Leon Orsund; brother: Henry Orsund; and sisters: Elaine Rhodes and Gladys Stouder.
Carl will be cremated and there is a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home after the service for social time. There will be military graveside rites at the funeral home following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nappanee United Methodist Church in memory of Carl.
