Margaret M. Altheide, 83, Nappanee, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at her home. She was born on March 18, 1934 in Delta, Ohio, to Arthur and Mary (Garrison) Johnson. Margaret married Henry Edward Altheide, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 1977.
Mrs. Altheide attended Knox High School and was a graduate of Elkhart Beauty College. She moved to Nappanee from the Culver area in 1977 following her husband’s death. She had worked as a cook for the Signalman’s Crew on the B and O Railroad, and then she was a seamstress at Blue Bell. She worked as a cook at Ozzie’s restaurant in Nappanee, and was a nurse’s aide and cook at LuAnn Nursing Home. Margaret was still working at Martin’s Grocery Store, where she had worked since 2004. She enjoyed working and raising her family. She attended First Brethren Church in Nappanee.
Surviving are daughters Dianna Martindale, and Sherryl Tobias, both of Nappanee; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by grandson Michael Heckaman, brothers Ed, Alvis, and Charles Johnson, and sisters Dorothy Shei, and Gloria Corey.
Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and 1 hour prior to the funeral service which will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 29th also at the funeral home. Officiating will be a nephew, Rev. Eddie Shei and Rev. Tom Schiefer, First Brethren Church. Burial will be in Culver Cemetery.
