Olive Maxine Cleveland

Olive Maxine Cleveland, 93, Nappanee, died at 12:36 a.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Lakeland Healthcare, Milford where she had been a resident for five weeks.

She was born Nov. 2, 1923 to Lawrence and Iona (Hornsby) Moyer in LaPaz. Mrs. Cleveland was a lifetime area resident. She was a 1942 graduate of Nappanee High School. On June 24, 1944 she married Robert E. Cleveland in Bourbon. He preceded her in death March 24, 1989.  Mrs. Cleveland was a homemaker. She loved her family, they were the center of her world.

She is survived by her children: Mike (Diane) Cleveland, LaPorte; Robert (Bobbi) Cleveland, Jr., Leesburg; Marsha Hunsberger, Topeka; ten grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Paul Moyer, Lowell Moyer; and a sister, Phyllis Bleile.

Family and friends may call from 10 a.m.-noon, Thursday, April 13 followed by a 12 p.m. funeral service at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.  Burial will follow at Bremen Cemetery.

Donna J. Egolf

Donna J. Egolf, 61, Nappanee, died at 6:30 a.m., Friday, April 21, 2017 at Elkhart Hospice House, where she had been admitted Tuesday.

She was born Jan. 10, 1956 in Elkhart to Russell Jr. and Janice (Dick) Dumph.

Donna lived her lifetime in this area. She was a graduate of NorthWood High School. On June 29, 1974, she married Mike Egolf. She had worked at Holiday, Monaco and Primetime. Donna loved and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, cars and birds.

Surviving is her husband, Mike; son, Brooks (Erica) Egolf, Wakarusa; granddaughters, Kaicee, Breck, Taylor Egolf;  brother, Rex (Doris) Dumph, Bremen; and sister, Cheryl (Bill) Rouch, Three Rivers, MI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell Dump Jr, Janice Dumph Johnson, and brother, Larry Dumph.

Family and friends may call from 2-6:30 p.m., Monday, April 24 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Funeral services will begin at 6:30 pm. Rev. Sam Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.

Ruth Noyer Castellano

Ruth Noyer Castellano, 85, Bremen, died at 12:58 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Goshen Hospital. 

She was a resident of Lakeland Healthcare in Milford for three years. She was born Feb. 4, 1932 in Davenport, Iowa to John William and Edna Mae (Fisher) Hultquist. Ruth first marriage was to John Noyer, he preceded her in death in 1976.  Her second marriage was to Joe Castellano, he preceded her in death.

Ruth delivered Motor Homes for Horizon Transport for 25 years. She formerly attended Grace Fellowship Church in Bremen.

Surviving is her daughters, Patricia (Robert) Brown, Valrico, Fla.; Cindy (Michael) Adams, Bremen; Peggy (Jim) Watson, Mt. Morris, Ill.; sons, Timothy (Jane) Roney, Argos; John Sarmineto, Bremen; Charles Earl (Lynne) Roney, Alaska; 36 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Hume, South Carolina; and a brother, Donny Hultquist, Colorado. 

She was preceded in death by her husbands; a daughter, Julie Bradley; sisters, Mary Hume, Lillie Ritter, Mona Norvell, Edna Sanders; brothers, Raymond, William, John, James, Calvin, and Bobby Hultquist.

A memorial service will take place on 10 a.m., Saturday, April 29 at Lakeland Healthcare, Milford. Pastor John Haney will officiate. Inurnment will take place at St. Joe Valley Park Cemetery, Mishawaka at a later date. 

Memorial contributions may be given to Lakeland Loving Care or Grace Fellowship Church in Bremen.

Margaret M. Altheide

Margaret M. Altheide, 83, Nappanee, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at her home. She was born on March 18, 1934 in Delta, Ohio, to Arthur and Mary (Garrison) Johnson. Margaret married Henry Edward Altheide, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 1977.

Mrs. Altheide attended Knox High School and was a graduate of Elkhart Beauty College.  She moved to Nappanee from the Culver area in 1977 following her husband’s death.  She had worked as a cook for the Signalman’s Crew on the B and O Railroad, and then she was a seamstress at Blue Bell. She worked as a cook at Ozzie’s restaurant in Nappanee, and was a nurse’s aide and cook at LuAnn Nursing Home. Margaret was still working at Martin’s Grocery Store, where she had worked since 2004. She enjoyed working and raising her family.  She attended First Brethren Church in Nappanee.

Surviving  are daughters Dianna Martindale, and Sherryl Tobias, both of Nappanee; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by grandson Michael Heckaman, brothers Ed, Alvis, and Charles Johnson, and sisters Dorothy Shei, and Gloria Corey.

Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and 1 hour prior to the funeral service which will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 29th also at the funeral home.  Officiating will be a nephew, Rev. Eddie Shei and Rev. Tom Schiefer, First Brethren Church.  Burial will be in Culver Cemetery.

Menno J. Hochstetler

Menno J. Hochstetler, 89, Nappanee, died at 3:25 p.m., Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Signature Healthcare, Bremen.

He was born July 16, 1927 to John C. and Sara (Borkholder) Hochstetler in Elkhart County. He was a lifetime area resident. On March 16, 1950 he married Catherine Miller in Nappanee.  Menno was a farmer, and he had worked for Holiday Rambler and Newmar.  Menno was a member of the Maranatha Fellowship.  He volunteered for M.D.S. (Mennonite Disaster Services).  Menno was a driver for American Red Cross blood drives.  He enjoyed fixing things for family.  He also enjoyed helping people both at home and through missions and mission work.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine; sons: Harold (Pam) Hochstetler, Bremen, Larry Hochstetler, Nappanee, Alan (Jeanne) Hochstetler, Bourbon; daughters: Clara (Lazaro) Ulloa, Bremen, Marietta (Charlie) Mullet, Nappanee, Ruth (Gerry) Poole, Sarasota, FL; 15 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 17 great great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Helen Hochstetler.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Levi, Mose, Joe, Neil Hochstetler; sisters, Lizzie Harshberger, Lovina Troyer, Mary Mast, Barbara Hershberger.

Family and friends may call from 2-8 p.m., Monday, May 1 and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral services on Tuesday, May 2, all at Maranatha Fellowship (9636 W. Hepton Rd., Nappanee). Pastors Michael Peterson and Gary Kauffman will officiate.  Burial will be in South Union Cemetery.

Sue Ann Kulp-Shoemaker

Sue Ann Kulp-Shoemaker, 77, of Goshen, formerly of Nappanee, passed away at 5:45 a.m., Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa, where she had been admitted Thursday. 

She was born Nov. 7, 1939 in Nappanee to Thomas and Pearl (Adams) Pletcher.  She lived her lifetime in the Nappanee, Goshen, and Elkhart County area.  On Aug. 25, 1957 she married Jimmie L. Kulp in Nappanee.  He preceded her in death Sept. 2, 1983. Sue was a 1957 graduate of Nappanee High School. She retired from Morgan Drive Away.  Sue enjoyed spending time with her family, and her dog Tosha, and sewing hand towels.

Sue is survived by her daughter, Brenda Bennett, Elkhart; son-in-law, Mark (Barb) Mast, Goshen; grandsons, Derek (Jennifer) Mast, Nappanee, Scott Mast, Goshen; great-grandchildren, Nate, Gabe, Elijah, and Angelica; sisters, Connie (Roy) Brock, Milford, Linda (Larry) Coffel, Fort Wayne.  She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Barbie Mast; great-granddaughter, Emily Mast; and sister, Nancy Yoder.

Family and friends may call from 2-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral services on Thursday, May 4th, also at the funeral home.  Rev. Sandra K. McFarren, 74, Nappanee, passed away at 8:18 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2017, at Elkhart General Hospital. 

She was born Dec. 26, 1942 in Marion, to Ralph and Georgiana (Neal) Clester. Sandra married Howard McFarren on Aug. 29, 1977 in Marion. 

She moved to Milford from Marion in 1988, then moved to Nappanee from Milford in 2002. Sandra enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, camping, fishing, playing bingo, going to garage sales, and spending time at the Elder Haus.

She is survived by her husband, Howard; sons, Wayne (Janet) Parish, Nappanee; Jerry (Pat) Parish, Warsaw; daughter, Lisa Parish, Nappanee; grandchildren, Daniel, Jessica, Erika; great-grandchildren, Jared, Presley, Breelyn, and Ava; brother, Rolland (Eldiva) Clester, Marion. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Chase Parish; brothers, Ralph V., Earl C., Harold C., and Dean C. Clester; sisters, Donna Mae Clester, Patty Ann Davis, and Beverly Faulk.

Family and friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Sunday, May 7 and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral services, Monday, May 8, all at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery. Rev. Sam Bennett, of First Church of God, will officiate.

Alma A. Kuhn

Alma A. Kuhns, 79, Milford, passed away at 11 p.m., Monday, May 15, 2017 at Elkhart General Hospital, where she had been admitted on Saturday. 

Alma was born on Feb. 3, 1938 in Milford to Perry L. and Pennola (Boley) Hochstetler.  On Sept. 2, 1965 she married Otis D. Kuhns in Shipshewana.  She moved to Nappanee in 1966.  Alma was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church. 

She is survived by her husband, Otis D. Kuhns, Milford; children, Wayne (Lauretta) Kuhns, Nappanee, Lavera (John) Auer, Nappanee, Rosetta Mitchell, Nappanee, Sharon (Nelson) Slabaugh, Milford, Joan Gay Kuhns, Elkhart, Lavern (Lou Ella) Kuhns, Nappanee; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond (Helen) Hochstetler, Topeka; sisters, Erma (Jake) Beachy, Berlin, Ohio, Katie Kelly, Florida; and sister-in-laws, Fannie Hochstetler, Goshen, Nettie Hochstetler, Shipshewana.  She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Marlene; brothers, Emil, Lester, and Leroy Hochstetler; and a sister, Edna Gingerich.

Family and friends may call after 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2017 and all day Thursday, May 18 at the family residence (3962 W. 1350 N., Milford). Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m., Friday, May 19 at the Carlisle Hershberger residence (25559 C.R. 50).  Home Ministry of the Old Order Amish Church will officiate. Burial will be in Northwest Union Center Amish Cemetery.

Roy B. Zimmerman

Roy B. Zimmerman, 73, Goshen, died peacefully at home, at 7:20 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2017.

He had been in declining health for one year and was looking forward to meeting his Savior and reuniting with his three children that had preceded him in death.

Roy was born March 20, 1944 in Foraker to John  W. and Esther (Bauman) Zimmerman.  He had lived his lifetime in this area. On Nov. 28, 1965 he married Anna Mary Shirk.

Roy was a member of Yellow Creek Wisler Mennonite Church. He was a Dairy farmer and owned Michiana Wheel Polishing. He served in 1-W Service in Kokomo and was on the Haiti MGMH Board.

Roy enjoyed spending time with his family.

Roy is survived by his wife, Anna Mary; children, Valerie (Todd) Martin, Claypool, Janell (Allen) Martin, Goshen, Sharon (Rodney) Ramer, New Paris, Jonathan (Marlene) Zimmerman, Goshen, Kimberly (Adam) Ramer, New Paris; 35 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brothers, Merle (Verna) Zimmerman, Elkhart, Arthur (Lois) Zimmerman, Nappanee; and sisters, Mary Ann VanPelt, Edith Martin, Erma (Robert) Ramer, all of Goshen.  He was preceded in death by children, Galen, Cynthia,and Julia Zimmerman; granddaughter, Erica Martin; brothers, Kenneth, Norman, Melvin Zimmerman; and brother-in-laws, Perry VanPelt and Charles Martin.

Isaac J. Borkholder

Isaac J. Borkholder, 89, Nappanee, died from injuries received in a fall, at 4:49 p.m., Monday, May 22, 2017 at Elkhart General Hospital Emergency Room. 

He was born Feb. 20, 1928 in Nappanee to John R. and Fannie I. (Yoder) Borkholder. He lived his lifetime in this area.  On Nov. 10, 1955, he married Dorothy Yoder.

Mr. Borkholder was a retired farmer and member of the Old Order Amish Church.

Mr. Borkholder is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Merlin I. (Brenda) Borkholder, Keith A. (Pauline) Borkholder, both of Bremen, JoEllen (Robert) Chupp, Nappanee, Miriam (Vernon M.) Miller, Milford, Jonathan (Frieda) Borkholder, Nappanee, Mattie (Devon Ray) Miller, Middlebury; 29 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; sisters, Anna Graber, Lagrange, Laura Miller, Nappanee, Edna Miller, Bremen; half brothers, Raymond (Fannie) Burkholder, Middlefield, OH, John J.R. (Fannie) Burkholder, Jonas (Ellen) Burkholder, both of Clymer, NY; step brother, Daniel (Betty) Burkholder, Middlefield, OH; and step sister, Mary Ann Miller, Clymer, NY.  He was preceded in death by grandsons, Andrew Miller, Joseph Borkholder; brothers, Andrew, Ira, Nathaniel Borkholder; sisters, Clara Borkholder, Mary Schrock; step brothers, William Burkholder, Owen Burkholder; and step sister, Laura Byler.

Joseph “Joe” L. Stutzman

Joseph “Joe” L. Stutzman, age 80, passed away at 9:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at the Owen Stutzman residence (Bremen) after a short illness.

He was born on March 13, 1937, in Nappanee to Levi D. and Emma C. (Hochstetler) Stutzman. J. Stutzman was a truck driver and a lifetime area resident of Nappanee. He is survived by his sisters, Lydia Mae (Milo) Hochstetler, Nappanee, Annie Stutzman, Michigan, Fannie (Eldon) Yoder, Kentucky, and Sylvia (Victor) Kohler, Nappanee. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers Harvey, William, Eli, Alvin, and Roman Stutzman, and 3 sisters, Barbara Helmuth, Lizzie Troyer, and Mary Yoder.

Friends and family may call from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, 2018 at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, until the 2 pm funeral service, also at the funeral home. Bishop John Miller, of Sandy Ridge Mennonite Church will officiate. Burial will follow at South Union Cemetery.

Clara Mae Kemp, 95, Nappanee, died at 7 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2019, at her daughter’s residence.

She was born March 20, 1924, in Nappanee to Daniel A. and Fannie J. (Miller) Miller.

On Feb. 9, 1943, she married Daniel E. Kemp. He preceded her in death May 2, 2000. Clara was a member of the Old Order Amish Church and a homemaker.

She is survived by her children, Arlene (Walter) Schwartz, Etna Green, Marvin  (Loretta) Kemp, Nappanee, Harvey (Barbara) Kemp, Goshen, Eva  Burkholder, Nappanee, Wilma  Mast, Millersburg, Ray (Judy) Kemp, Mel (Gayle) Kemp, and Marilyn  (Richard) Kemp, all of Nappanee; 48 grandchildren; 169 great-grandchildren; 51 great great-grandchildren; brother, Marvin D. (Fannie Mae) Miller; sister, Wilma (Henry) Yoder; and brother-in-law, Marvin E. Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Eldon Kemp; grandsons, Ivan and Travis Miller; great-granddaughter, Karen Sue Schwartz; great-grandson, Daniel Joseph Schwartz; great great-grandson, Austin Jon Schwartz; grandson-in-law, Lloyd McCoige; son-in-laws, Walter Burkholder Jr. and Tim Mast; sisters, Lizzie Troyer and Edna Miller.

Dominica Kay Beath

Dominica Kay Beath, 75, of Nappanee, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at 6:10 p.m., Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, at her residence after a three-year illness.  She was born De. 24, 1943, in Bradford, Pa., to Ottario and Sylvia (Alviti) Vigliotti.

Dominica Kay Beath

On Feb. 1966, she married James Beath.  They moved to the Nappanee/Elkhart area in 1971 from Niagara Falls, Ny.

Mrs. Beath was a graduate of St. Bernards High School in Bradford, Pa., and received her RN degree from Buffalo Nursing School. She had worked as the Director of Nursing at LuAnn Nursing Home in Nappanee and had also worked at Elkhart General and Goshen Hospitals. She had also owned and operated Dominica’s Bridal Shop in Nappanee. She was an avid painter, collector especially of glass, gardener, and enjoyed walking on the beach. Dominica was a member of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Bremen, where she had served as Director of Religious Education.

Surviving are her husband, James Beath; children, Sharon (Matthew) Rethlake, Brenda (Timothy) Rice, both of Nappanee; Joseph Beath, South Bend, Rachel (Patrick) Woods, Cicero, Elizabeth Beath, Noblesville, James (Jennifer) Beath, Osceola; former daughter-in-law, Jacki Beath, South Bend;  18 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and sister, Toni (James) Bloomquist, Bradford, Pa. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Sharon Vigliotti.

Family and friends may call from 3 – 5:40 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019, at the St. Dominic’s Catholic Church Chapel.  Rosary will take place at 5:40 p.m.  Funeral Services will begin at 1 p.m., Monday at St. Dominic’s Church.  Officiating will be Father Polycarp Fernando and Father Fernando Jimenez.  Entombment will be in South Union Cemetery, Nappanee.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Dominic’s Catholic Church.

Ty L. Andrews

Ty L. Andrews, 55 of Fort Wayne, died at 12:39 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, after a long illness. He was born Oct. 15, 1964, in Elkhart to Keith “Duke” and Fran (Spicher) Andrews.

Ty lived his life in Nappanee until moving to Fort Wayne. He attended NorthWood High School.

Surviving is his mother, Fran Andrews; sisters, Teresa (Scott) Hoffer, Tracy Hochstetler; brothers, Terry L. Andrews, Troy (Eva) Andrews, all of Nappanee; and nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father in 2003.

Cremation will take place and there will be a graveside service at 2:00 pm Friday, November 29, 2019.

Joseph A. Hartwell

Joseph A. Hartwell, 60, of Nappanee, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, after a short illness. He was born Dec.r 13, 1959, in Plymouth to Henry and Nancy (Eddington) Hartwell.

Joseph was a 1978 Plymouth High School Graduate. On June 14, 1986, he married Diane Price in Nappanee.  He was a member of the First Mennonite Church, Nappanee. Joseph was a lifelong area resident. He was the pre-press manager at Bomarko in Plymouth. Joseph was an avid war historian.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Hartwell, Nappanee; son, Tyler Hartwell, Nappanee; sister, Jane (Jim) Williams, Punta Gorda, Fla.

Family and friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Sunday, February 16, 2020, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service, Monday, February 17th at First Mennonite Church.  Rev. Kami Coffin will officiate.

Vivian Agnes Kane

Vivian Agnes Kane, 88, of Bremen formerly of Nappanee, passed away at 5:15 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2020 at Signature Healthcare in Bremen.

Vivian Agnes Kane

She was born March 28, 1931, in Chicago, Ill. to Richard and Edna (Kaeding) Vinke. Kane moved from Winchester to Nappanee in 1948.

She was a 1949 graduate of Nappanee High School.

On June 28, 1953, she married Thomas Eugene Kane in Bremen. He preceded her in death on November 19, 2007.

Kane was a bookkeeper for Robinson & Price. During retirement, she had worked at McDonald’s.  She was raised in the Lutheran Church. Kane was part of the closing of the Lutheran Church. Afterword, began attending the Nappanee United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years at Nappanee Lutheran Church. Kane also attended Bremen Church of God. 

She enjoyed square dancing, roller skating, camping and word search puzzles.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughter, Kami (Jack) Gunnoe, Walkerton; son, Gary Kane, South Range, WI; grandson, Jesse Gunnoe, West Jordan, UT; granddaughter, Kaitlin (David) Garza, New Paris.  She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Beverly Slagle.

A private family visitation and funeral will take place at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Suzan Higgins, 73, of Nappanee, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020.

She was born February 28, 1947 in Osceola.

She retired from FAI in Mishawaka after working there for several years. Higgins was a member of Union Center Church of the Brethren in Nappanee where she served as a bible study teacher for several years. She loved reading, watching her Bears play football, and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Her survivors include son, Kenton (Samantha) Thornton, Nappanee; daughters, Kathy Spiteri, South Bend, Kristy (Rolland) Miller, Lapaz; and 8 grandchildren, Santina Lengacher, Faith Spiteri, Tyler Thornton, Corporal Alexander Steinke, Adam Steinke, Matthew Thornton, Kylie Thornton, and Abigail Suzan Thornton.

A small service for immediate family will be held at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Condolences can be made in care of Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home. Paul E. Schmucker, 93, of Nappanee, passed away at 12:06 p.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born Nov. 7, 1926, near Nappanee to Daniel and Fannie (Miller) Schmucker. Paul took over the family farm at the age of 16. On October 12, 1947, he married Bertha Brandenberger in Goshen. Paul formerly attended North Main Street Mennonite Church. He was a member of the Syracuse Rotary Club, and volunteered at the Open Door in Nappanee.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha Schmucker, Warsaw; sons, Jeff Schmucker, Warsaw, Kent Schmucker and Jim Schmucker, both of Nappanee; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Edna Hoover, Goshen. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Rose Schmucker; grandson, Seth Schmucker; brothers, Harley and Eli Schmucker.

Family and friends may call from 4-7 p.m., Monday, June 22, 2020, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.  Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 23rd also at the funeral home.  Pastor Barry Curtis will officiate.  Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.  In accordance with the State of Indiana Back on Track plan, family and friends are encouraged to follow social distancing protocols.

Melissa A. Miller, 11, of Nappanee, passed away peacefully at 4:12 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020, at her residence, after a two-year battle with cancer.

She was born June 3, 2009, in Waynesboro, Virginia, to Ezra and Erin (Nead) Miller.  Melissa had attended Woodview Elementary and was looking forward to attending her 6th grade school year at NorthWood Middle School this fall.

Surviving are her parents; sister, Emily Miller, at home; brothers, Ezra and Kristopher Miller, both at home; paternal grandmother, Esther Miller, Orwell, Ohio; maternal grandparents, Leon & Elizabeth Nead, Hart, Mich.; great-grandmother, Marlene Brovont, Goshen and great-grandmother, Norma Nead, Goshen. She was preceded in death by a sister, Amber Grace Miller.

Family and friends may call from 1-4 and 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020, at Ramer Mennonite Youth Center (24647 County Road 44, Nappanee). Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 13 at Cornerstone Mennonite Church (County Road 44, Nappanee).  Pastors Joe Yoder and Andrew Eversole, of Milford Chapel, will officiate.  Burial will be in South Union Cemetery

Esther R. (Kuhns) Schwartz, 52, of Etna Green, died at 4:18 pm, Saturday, Sept.12, 2020, at Goshen Hospital. She was born November 15, 1967, in Bremen to Roman L. and Martha (Plank) Kuhns. On September 15, 1989, she married Devon R. Schwartz in Bremen.

She was a lifetime resident of this area. She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

Surviving are her husband, Devon; children, David Schwartz, at home, Dora (Mervin) Yutzy, Bremen, Cheryl (Steven) Bontrager, Sturgis, Mich., Ruby (Calvin) Kuhns, Jolene (Gary) Harshberger, both of Bremen, Leora Schwartz, Debra Schwartz, Sheila Schwartz, all at home; 5 grandchildren; and siblings, Rosetta Kuhns, Plymouth, Lorene Borkholder, Middlebury, Ivan (Norma) Kuhns, Bremen, Levi (Mary) Kuhns, Shipshewana, LaMar (Lorene) Kuhns, Bremen, Carol (Paul) Graber, Argos, Frieda (Keith) Abbott, Sheridan, Ill., and Homer (Clara) Kuhns, Plymouth. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Leann Schwartz, parents, father-in-law, Ernest Schwartz, and brother-in-law, Darrell Borkholder.

Family and friends may call after 2 Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2020, and all day Wednesday, Sept. 16 at the family residence, 8099 N 800 W, Etna Green. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 17 at the family residence.  The Home Ministry of the Old Order Amish Church will officiate and burial will be in Graber Cemetery
