Beckie Pressler

Rebecca S. “Beckie” Pressler, age 73, of Syracuse, died at 2:56 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Elkhart General Hospital after a short illness.

She was born on Dec. 1, 1951, in Elkhart, to William D. and Mary Lou (Amsden) Stump. Beckie was a graduate of Chula Vista High School in Chula Vista, Calif., and received her associate degree in nursing from Southwestern Michigan College.

On Sept. 20, 1969, Beckie married William L. Pressler in Imperial Beach, Calif. He preceded her in death on April 29, 2022.

Beckie worked for many years as a registered nurse at Community Hospital of Bremen, retiring in 2011. She had previously worked for six years at St. Joseph Medical Center and before that worked for Elkhart County Home Health Care.

Beckie loved people and never met a stranger. She would often astonish family and friends by meeting new people and finding out how they were distantly related. Beckie loved genealogy and enjoyed frequenting local cemeteries to learn their history. She loved to travel and was always happy when she could make a “Bu-cee’s” stop while on the road. Beckie cherished her dog, Brystal, and was an active member of the Friends of North Webster Library. Most of all, Beckie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Beckie is survived by two daughters, Susan M. (Greg) Byrer, of Warsaw, and Brenda L. (Tim) Mast, of Adamsville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Brandi Byrer, of Etna Green, and Craig Byrer, of Syracuse; two great-grandchildren, Aria Byrer-Foust and Dominic Newsome; and two brothers, Jerry (Audrey) Stump, of White Pigeon, Mich., and William (Diane) Stump, of Elkhart. Beckie was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Cremation will take place and visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, with a memorial service starting at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Frank Ramirez will officiate and burial will follow in Union Center Cemetery.
