Dorothy L. Smith, 95, New Paris, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 31, 2016 at her residence.
Dorothy was born April 28, 1921 in Lima, Ohio to Claude and Mary (Balsbaugh) Miller.
Dorothy moved to New Paris in 1942. She married Kenneth B. Smith Oct. 17, 1942 in Mexico. He preceded her in death Jan. 8, 2010.
Dorothy was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife. She was a member of the Union Center Church of the Brethren in Nappanee. Dorothy was a volunteer at Elkhart General Hospital for many years. She loved her family and dogs.
Dorothy is survived by a son, John (Debra) Smith, New Paris; daughters: Cherylan (Bryon) Fervida, Milford; Mary (Alvin) Cripe, Nappanee, Sue (Jim) Tierney, Osceola; grandchildren: Jeff, Ken, and Heath Fervida, Trisha Warren, Angie Woods, and Heather Brenner, Crystal Sheward, Clint Cripe, and Trey Cripe, and Josh Tierney, Justin Tierney, Jessie Matteson, and Bradley Tierney; and 26 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and a sister, Kathryn Warner.
Dorothy will be cremated, and family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at Union Center Church of the Brethren. Revs. Frank Ramirez and Rhonda Dorn will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Union Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Samaritan’s Purse, Inc. or to the Elkhart County Humane Society.
