Virginia Jeanette Sheets, 90, of Nappanee, Ind., passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside at 6:27 p.m. on Sept. 10, 2014, at Greencroft Nursing Center in Goshen, Ind., where she had been a resident for 3 and half years.
She was born on April 21, 1924, in Gravelton, Ind., to Charles and Chloe (Coy) Jackson.
In 1935 Amos Sheets was putting stone on her family’s driveway and noticed Virginia playing on her porch. Then in 1942, Amos and Virginia went on their first date along with Gerald and Eileen Mishler. On Feb. 14, 1945, Virginia married Amos Jesse Sheets in Gravelton. He survives. Virginia graduated from New Paris High School in 1942 and was a lifetime resident of this area.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Union Center Church of the Brethren, where she enjoyed singing in the church choir and was also involved in the Ladies Fellowship.
She is survived by her husband: Amos; daughter: Jeanie (Howard) Cross of Nappanee; three sons: Sam (Brenna) Sheets and Jack Sheets, both of Nappanee; Dan (Pam) Sheets, North Carolina; seven grandchildren: Robert Cross, Samantha Wilson-Raza, Sonya Wolfe, Andy Sheets, Joe Sheets, Katelyn Sheets and Maggie Sheets; 10 great-grandchildren; twin great-granddaughters due on Oct. 10; and two sisters: June Geyer, Nappanee; Thelma Sellers, Bourbon, Ind.
She was preceded in death by a grandson: Jesse Sheets.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at the Union Center Church of the Brethren in Nappanee and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at the church with Reverend Frank Ramirez officiating. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be given to Union Center Church of the Brethren or Camp Mack.
